You may have seen many types of wild weather, but NONE, none is more destructive than the Tornado. Tornadoes kill about sixty people each year in the notorious Tornado Alley, however, in 2011 alone, there was more than 550 tornado related deaths. These are the most destructive storms of all, and with thousands of tornadoes dropping each year, scientists are struggling to keep up-to-date with recent tornadoes. The people who chase tornadoes are called storm chasers. These 'chasers' are people that want the adrenaline of the moment and must be crazy, or are reaserchers like Josh Wurman and Reed Timmer, or are people like Sean Cassey (above video) who want to take "never before seen" films aimed at tornadoes.

How do tornadoes form?
Tornadoes form when masses of warm air from Mexico mix with the cool air from Canada above the USA in Tornado Alley. After this, no one knows what happens until there is a mezocyclone coming down out of the clouds and the funnel touches the ground causing a twister. I have a theory myself.

Now the jetstream is over tornado zone,. all it takes is a bit more turbulence and the jetstream splits into two. One continues on its way, the other drops down to form several mezocyclones.
Devistating Facts:Did you know that there is more than one type of tornado. These are fire tornadoes, dust devils and water spouts.
Waterspouts A Waterspout is a tornado which occurs over a body of water. This is a spectacular event. Dust Devil Unlike tornadoes and waterspouts which spin down from the clouds, "dust devils" are formed in the desert by collumns of hot air whirling up from the ground. They are far weaker than tornadoes, however, they can still cause damage. Fire Tornados Fire Tornadoes are also known as fire whirls, fire devils, and firenados. These happen when a bush fire creates a column of hot air, just like a dust devil and intensifies the heat causing the fire tornado. These whirlwinds of flame are not really rare, just rarely documented. |
